Devil’s Third Will Support 16 Player Online and Unique GamePad Functionality

Renowned game-maker and former Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki recently spoke with Famitsu about his upcoming Wii U title Devil’s Third, and stated specifically that he wants the title to feature unique online elements and GamePad functionality. This is notable news coming from Itagaki — despite the zaniness of his past work, he usually delivers on a promise.

Itagaki also revealed that the game takes place in North America. Here’s exactly what he told Famitsu in the interview.

It is our policy to make full use of the hardware’s characteristics. I’m currently thinking along the lines of having something other than having you press down on the Wii U GamePad, and something that will make you say, ‘Oh, I see!’

I definitely like being forced to say “oh, I see,” but can Valhalla Studios deliver? It seems likely. Nintendo has been a sanctuary for Japanese developers lately, be it the saving of Bayonetta 2 or its general supervision of Monolith and the Xenoblade series. Still, shooters are not Nintendo’s area of expertise, and it will take more than the publisher’s watchful eye to produce a quality final product.

Luckily, despite his dark and mysterious shades, it appears as though Itagaki knows what he’s doing.
