Former Australian Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has used Twitter to lash back at former boss Christian Horner.
Webber responded to comments made by Red Bull boss Horner, who claims drivers need to be allowed to express their personalities as a way of combating dwindling fan interest.
“We need to allow the drivers to express themselves more without them being hit by criticism,” Horner said of team, sponsor and F1 pressure placed on racing’s biggest stars.
“We need to allow their personalities to come out. They have options, they have personalities and we should encourage them to see more of them.
“Sometimes it feels that the races are bit too managed.”
Webber hit back at Horner’s comments, suggesting his old boss was a hypocrite by using the old idiom about the pot calling the kettle black in a tweet (below).
A year of controversy and a ruined relationship with teammate and champion Sebastian Vettel saw Webber leave Red Bull and F1 after the 2013 season to join Porsche in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Webber often felt Red Bull’s prioritisation of his German teammate crossed a line and he lacked support from team leadership after a number of headline grabbing-controversies, including Vettel ignoring orders to gift the first man into the final pit stop of last year’s Malaysia GP the win.
Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are another pairing to have run into complications in recent months despite their unrivalled 2014 success. Much of the inside operations between F1’s top team have been censored from the public eye stemming from a similar incident during qualifying of the Monaco Grand Prix.
