There’s Going to Be a Dead Island Movie after All

Deep Silver hasn’t given up on a Dead Island movie yet. Despite the publisher’s prior deal with Lionsgate reaching its expiration, Deep Silver has gone ahead and forged a new deal, this time with Occupant Entertainment. The hope is that a Dead Island film will finally reach production this time around.

Lionsgate’s initial interest stemmed from the original Dead Island‘s now-famous reveal trailer, and it sounds as if Occupant’s interest has been piqued for similar reasons.

Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed and well received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse.

If Occupant loves the existing trailers so much, does that mean Techland, Yager Development, or any of the folks at Deep Silver will be directly involved with the film’s creation? Or is this merely a licensing deal? The timing couldn’t be more perfect either, as Deep Silver currently has three Dead Island titles in development: Dead Island 2, Escape Dead Island, and Dead Island: Epidemic.

Occupant says its aim is to begin work on the film in 2015, so we shouldn’t have to wait all that long for more gory details.
