Yesterday, after years of languishing in development hell, followed by losing a director and gaining a last-minute replacement, Marvel’s Ant-Man finally went into production. And it’s good thing too, since the movie is scheduled to come out in less than one year. As proof that shooting is finally underway, and a glimmer of hope that Ant-Man will actually meet its projected July 17, 2015 release date, Marvel Studios has already released the film’s first official production still of the film’s star, Paul Rudd, a.k.a. Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man (via ComingSoon).

Fans looking for clues about the film’s plot are no doubt scouring the below image as we speak. You may have noticed that Paul Rudd’s right eyebrow has been taped up a bit, suggesting that he may have been in a brawl. The gloves/hoodie/jacket combination implies that it may be a bit nippy out. And if you look very, very carefully at the picture you will see that the car has a California license plate, suggesting very, very subtly that the film or at least a few certain sequences might – MIGHT – take place in California. The non-descript background does us no favors though. Los Angeles? San Diego? Who knows?
Oh, wait, that’s the flipping Golden Gate Bridge behind him. Never mind.
The official plot synopsis of Ant-Man reads as follows:
“Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
“Also starring Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Gregg Turkington and T.I., the Peyton Reed-directed film hits theaters on July 17, 2015.”
