Are you a newly-initiated 3DS owner? Or perhaps you’re scheming your import strategy for the New 3DS when it hits this October as we speak. Either way, it looks as if Nintendo may have your back in the coming weeks. In honor of Super Smash Bros.’ impending release on 3DS, Nintendo is severely reducing the cost of games that feature Smash Bros. characters via a massive eShop sale. The cuts are expected to unfold over the course of four weeks, and you can check out the first week deals below.
Week 01 9/4 – 9/11
Super Mario Bros 3 (3DS/Wii U) – $3.49
Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS/Wii U) – $3.49
New Super Mario Bros U (Wii U) – $39.99
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) – $19.99
Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) $39.99
Yoshi’s New Island (3DS) – $29.99
Punch Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (3DS/Wii U) – $3.49
The value proposition here is mixed, but some offers are true steals at the cost Nintendo is asking. Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 for less than $5 are tremendous deals if you haven’t played them before, and Yoshi’s New Island, though controversial among critics, is a game we enjoyed greatly. Super Mario 3D Land for $20 is also quite nice; it’s a short but sweet game that offers some of the best visuals and 3D effects on the system. A must buy if you’re a newcomer to the platform.

The only question now is which titles will be discounted in the coming weeks (update: they’ve been hinted at here). I’m crossing my fingers for Fire Emblem, or perhaps some cheap old-school Kirby. Nearly every Nintendo character appears in Smash Bros. one way or another, so really the possibilities are endless. If week four is Mega Man-centric, you can find me in my room purchasing the entire list.
