Last month, Keanu Reeves was signed to star and executive produce the adaptation of Barry Eisler’s “Rain” novels. And now Reeves has a second TV project on his slate.
Deadline is reporting that Reeves and director Roland Emmerich are executive producing “New Angeles,” a TV project created by novelist and comic book writer Gregg Hurwitz. The premise of the series centers on a young man who escapes the boring world of the future by plugging himself into a virtual world called New Angeles where he can finally become the man he always wanted to be.
The description adds that “Once down the rabbit hole, he adopts a new identity, becoming the man he was always destined to be, and in the process, unlocking the keys to a mystery that has real-world consequences for him and his family.”
This premise does sound similar to Reeves’ biggest box office hits, The Matrix Trilogy. However, Reeves is not expected to have an on-camera role in “New Angeles.”

Emmerich is slated to direct the pilot episode of “New Angeles.” Prior to this project, Emmerich has been best known for his feature films including Independence Day, Stargate, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 and the 1998 remake of Godzilla.
In a statement, Emmerich said “Gregg is an incredibly imaginative writer, and I’m looking forward to bringing his ideas for the show to life. It’s exciting to get the opportunity bring a massive project like this to the small screen within a rapidly changing television space.”
“New Angeles” will be produced by Slingshot Global Media, which will distribute the series and shop it around to the cable and broadcast networks.
