Did you know that an elephant weighs more than three full-sized cars? How about that its strength allows it to carry one-hundred humans? I did, because I’m smart. Actually, it’s because I just watched the latest trailer for Far Cry 4.
I’m glad to see Ubisoft promoting the elephant population of Kyrat, because frankly, elephant missions have been far and away the most enjoyable Far Cry 4 demos I’ve played so far. Back at E3 I had a blast riding bareback on a wild Loxodonta (though according to this trailer it was probably Elaphas Maximus), and my journey atop an out-of-control flying Buzzer at PAX was far less fun by comparison. I guess I just have a way with animals.
Ubisoft describes the elephant as something that can be “a powerful weapon, a deadly enemy, or a rampaging vehicle.” You forgot one crucial descriptor, Ubisoft. How about, oh I don’t know, FRIEND? I want to roll with a posse of deadly elephant pals, and they’re going to be far more than mere weapons for me to unleash upon foes. They’ll be my elephant crew, yo. Maybe I’ve been daydreaming about current-gen GTA V a bit too much.

Despite Far Cry 3‘s release just two years ago, Far Cry 4 is arriving sooner than you think, with a launch date of November 18th in North America. Boasting improved visuals on both current and last-gen hardware, a new locale to explore in Kyrat, and what certainly sounds like a compelling plot and central antagonist in Pagan Min, the game truly does sound enticing. Fix up that Buzzer mission and I’m sold. Or give my elephant flying abilities.
