As if a free copy of Velocity 2X weren’t enough, Sony appears to be dishing out additional PlayStation Plus perks for upcoming games via the PlayStation Store’s website. Beginning today, a $49.99 pre-order of Driveclub will be accessible to PS Plus members, as will the ability to pre-order the game’s season pass.
Interestingly, Sony has already granted Driveclub perks to PS Plus members in the past, including a free download of the game with limited content. That offer still stands, but if you want the full version the moment the clock strikes midnight on October 7th, you’ll need to plunk down some cash. It’s no free giveaway, but the $49.99 price tag is still a worthwhile savings.
As for the season pass, you can also pre-order it whenever you’re ready, though there don’t appear to be additional PS Plus discounts taken from its $24.99 asking price. I’ve never bought a season pass myself (partially due to horror stories from folks who felt they didn’t get their money’s worth), but given Driveclub‘s multiple delays and the subsequent goodwill Sony has managed to recover with potential buyers since, I highly doubt the season pass will be a flop. If you go by Evolution Studios’ reputation alone, it’s actually a pretty compelling buy.
Driveclub is slated for North American release on October 7th, and is a PS4 exclusive. Sony is depending on the game as part of its holiday 2014 push, and with few heavy-hitting exclusives coming before 2015, it’s an important game indeed. The game’s social aspects certainly seem plenty addicting; I just need to convince my friends to buy PS4s first.
