Last Christmas, Peter Capaldi made his first full appearance as the Twelfth Doctor on “Doctor Who.” This year, Capaldi’s Doctor will star in his first Christmas adventure. And he won’t be alone.
BBC has announced three of the primary guest stars for this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special: Nick Frost, Natalie Gumede and Michael Troughton. Frost previously starred in the British TV series “Spaced” and he currently stars in “Mr. Sloane.” But Frost is best known for his roles in Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz (pictured above), The World’s End, Cuban Fury and Paul.
“I’m so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas special,” said Frost in a brief statement. “I’m such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream ‘No spoilers!’ Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan boy squeals!”

Gumede’s credits include “Coronation Street,” “Ideal” and “Strictly Come Dancing.” Troughton is the son of Patrick Troughton, the man who portrayed the Second Doctor in “Doctor Who.” Michael Troughton has appeared in “Breathless,” “Cold Feet,” “The New Statesman” and “Blake’s 7.”
Faye Marsay (The White Queen) and Nathan McMullen (“Misfits”) are also slated to appear in the “Doctor Who” Christmas episode.
“Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat will once again be writing this year’s Christmas special, which will premiere on BBC America on December 25. Production of the 2014 “Doctor Who” Christmas special started this week in Cardiff.
