Tim Cahill Among Top MLS Earners

Socceroos striker Tim Cahill is the eighth highest-paid player in Major League Soccer, according to a report from the league’s Players’ Union.

Cahill is pocketing US$3.63 million (A$3.92 million) for the New York Red Bulls in his third season with the club after an eight-year stint with EPL side Everton.

But the flag-punching favourite is earning less than half of what Brazilian star Kaka collects from Orlando City, sizably less than US national team stars Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan and shade below former EPL stars Robbie Keane and Thierry Henry.

Cahill’s $4 million salary last season saw him jump to 10th on the list of Aussie athlete earners, topped by the $16 million grossed yearly by former No.1 overall NBA draft pick Andrew Bogut.

Also atop BRW’s February ranking of Aussie sporting millionaires are Adam Scott ($15.5m), Mark Webber ($10m, in final year with F1 team Red Bull Racing), golfer Jason Day ($7.5m) and cricketers Shane Watson ($6m) and Michael Clarke ($5.5m).
