New Zealand is home to more than just Hobbits, it’s home to great indie horror comedies. Peter Jackson himself got his start making classic gory horror comedies like Bad Taste and Dead Alive, and he went on to direct the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings franchise. And if you trust in Peter Jackson you may want to take his advice about the new film Housebound. He called it “A wonderfully witty comedy horror that delights in scaring the hell out of you! Bloody brilliant!”
Glowing praise. And if this CraveOnline exclusive clip is any indication, it may be justified. Housebound tells the story of a woman under house arrest with her superstitious mother, at first skeptical and then believing her stories that the house is haunted. In this scene, you’ll see how the house responds when confronted with non-believers. It’s damned funny, and damned silly.
Housebound arrives in theaters, VOD and iTunes on October 17, 2014. Just in time for Halloween!
From the Press Release:
Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. Her punishment is made all the more unbearable by the fact she has to live there with her mother Miriam – a well-intentioned blabbermouth who’s convinced that the house is haunted. Kylie dismisses Miriam’s superstitions as nothing more than a distraction from a life occupied by boiled vegetables & small-town gossip. However, when she too becomes privy to unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she’s inherited her overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who’s not particularly thrilled about her return.
