Among comic book fans, Todd McFarlane is best known for his hugely popular run on Spider-Man and for co-founding Image Comics with his creator owned comic, Spawn.
But within the toy industry, McFarlane casts an even longer shadow. McFarlane created his own action figure line for Spawn in 1994 and his toy empire has expanded in the subsequent twenty years to include licenses from other comics, movies, TV series and all five professional sports leagues in North America. In short, McFarlane is a giant in the world of toys.
At New York Comic Con, CraveOnline’s Iann Robinson caught up with McFarlane as he demonstrated his newest product: building sets for “The Walking Dead” which appear to be designed to take Lego style construction to the next level. McFarlane also explains at length the philosophy behind his toy making decisions and what inspired him to pursue his latest endeavor.
Along the way, Iann and McFarlane share a laugh during an unplanned promo for the new set.
