‘True Detective’ Season 2 Enlists James Frain & Lolita Davidovich

James Frain has a long history of playing villains on TV, including stints on “True Blood,” “The Cape” and more recently in “The Intruders.” But now Frain will be back on HBO in a much higher profile project.

Deadline is reporting that Frain has been cast in a recurring role for “True Detective” Season 2. He will portray Jeff Hunt, “a ruthless police lieutenant.” This season’s storyline will revolve around three police detectives played by Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams who are drawn into the web of a murder conspiracy alongside a career criminal played by Vince Vaughn.

The Deadline report also indicates that Lolita Davidovich has also landed a recurring role as Nancy Simpson, the mother of Kitsch’s character who happens to have an unhealthy attachment to her son. From the description, Nancy is “a girly girl, a former showgirl continually sucking on cigarettes and margaritas as she mourns the loss of male sexual attention. What little of her hopes remain she has transferred onto her adult son, who, in her eyes, is God’s gift to women.”

HBO has not yet confirmed the castings of McAdams and Kitsch, but Kitsch has already publicly acknowledged that he is one of the leads for this season. Kelly Reilly (“Black Box”) is reportedly one of the series regulars  in “True Detective” Season 2. Michael Irby (“Almost Human”), Abigail Spencer (“Suits”) and Leven Rambin (“The Tomorrow People”) have been cast in recurring roles.

“True Detective” Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2015 on HBO.
