American-born comedienne Andrea Martin, most famous for her hilarious run on “SCTV,” was recently announced as the host of the 2015 Canadian Screen Awards, which will take place next March.
Martin’s work on “SCTV” won her two Emmy Awards for writing and she also received an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Variety series. Most recently she has done voicework for TV’s “Fugget About It” as well as starred in “Working the Engels,” and she also released a memoir called “Lady Parts.” She can currently be seen performing on Broadway in Act One at Lincoln Center until June 15th.
“I’m thrilled to be hosting the CSAs,” said Martin in a statement Tuesday (as reported by CBC News). She had hosted the event in the mid-80s when it was then called the Gemini Awards. “Especially since the film and television awards have converged on one special night. It gives Canadians everywhere, more time to figure out what’s happening on Orphan Black.”
“Andrea Martin is the perfect host,” said Helga Stephenson, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, in making the announcement.
The Canadian Screen Awards will be held at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto on March 1st during a live two-hour special.
