Last fall, TNT unexpectedly moved in on the superhero game by ordering a live action pilot based on DC Comics’ The Teen Titans. More specifically, this adaptation would reportedly drop the “Teen” from the title and focus on the characters from the legendary Teen Titans run by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.
Today, a report out of The Nerdist suggests that this is still true, but there are some significant changes to the character line up. As expected, the original Robin, Dick Grayson is one of the main characters and the series is said to track his evolution into Nightwing. But first, Grayson will be operating as a private detective in Boston after breaking his partnership with Batman.
The biggest surprise is that a wheelchair bound Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) is a member of the team as a computer expert, but she isn’t called by her “Oracle” codename in the pilot. The other new members of the team are Hawk and Dove, aka Hank Hall and Dawn Granger, who will reportedly be lovers in this incarnation.

Classic Teen Titans Starfire and Raven are also slated to appear in the pilot episode of “The Titans,” but Beast Boy and Cyborg didn’t make the cut… yet. Technically, there’s nothing stopping DC from using those characters. Therefore, they could appear in future episodes or seasons if the series is picked up.
“The Titans” is being produced and co-written by Akiva Goldsman (Batman & Robin) and Marc Haimes. Casting for the pilot will likely begin later this year.
