Arlene Dickinson, often pegged as the voice of reason amongst the male-dominated audition room of “Dragons’ Den,” is stepping down from the show and will not be joining the series for its upcoming 10th season. Still, the show is kicking off another audition tour on February 21st.
Dickinson, who has been a staple on the show since it debuted in 2006 on CBC, now sits with fellow dragons Jim Trevling (owner of Boston Pizza and the only other original Dragon), David Chilton (author of “The Wealthy Barber”), Michael Wekerle, and Vikram Vij.
“After eight incredible seasons, listening to thousands of pitches, and building a portfolio of successful investments, I’ve decided it’s time to give up my chair,” Dickinson said in a statement (Toronto Sun). “The impossible dream that starts in someone’s basement can grow into a business that feeds families, drives growth and innovation, and makes our country a better place. We’ve seen it time and again on ‘Dragons’ Den.’ I know all about dreams. The opportunity to be a Dragon has made some of mine come true. But I still have some big dreams, ones I want and need to chase.”
