Dynamite Unveils Swords of Sorrow Crossover Event

Last month, Dynamite revealed the name of its Women of Dynamite crossover within CraveOnline’s The Dynamite Report. Today, the company officially announced Swords of Sorrow, a six issue event miniseries coming in May.

Red Sonja writer Gail Simone and artist Sergio Davila  will be main creative team of Swords of Sorrow, which will unite Dynamite’s major heroines Red Sonja, Vampirella, Dejah Thoris and Jana The Jungle Girl in a story that spans multiple time periods as the heroines face off against a new threat.

Vampirella writer Nancy A. Collins and G. Willow Wilson (the creator of the modern Ms. Marvel) will also write Swords of Sorrow tie-in miniseries, with more related projects to be announced later by Dynamite.

“I love pulp adventure, always have,” said Simone in the announcement. “But as male-dominated as comics have often been, the pulp adventure world seems to be even more so. Most of the big name stars and creators are dudes, and that’s fine, it’s great. But it hit me… what if that wasn’t the case? What if adventure pulps had also been written with female readers in mind, and awesome female characters in the spotlight?”

Dynamite has passed along several of the covers from Swords of Sorrow # 1, which you can see below.

Joyce Chin

Joyce Chin’s cover provides the best clues about which heroines will be the focus of Swords of Sorrow. At the top of the cover are three of the women of CHAOS, Lady Demon, Purgatori and Mistress Hel. In the next row, Miss Masque from Project Superpowers. Lady Rawhide, Jennifer Blood and Jana The Jungle Girl, with a large Lady Zorro image below her. Finally, Vampirella, Red Sonja and Dejah Thoris appear at the bottom of the cover.
