For the third year in a row, it’s more heartbreaking news for Chicago Bulls fans. Derrick Rose needs knee surgery once again.
The former NBA Rookie of the Year and MVP will have surgery on his right knee for a torn meniscus. It’s the same meniscus he had repaired last year.
An MRI confirmed the result after he complained of pain. The timetable for his return is unknown, but it will likely mean missing the rest of the season. However, if it is a partial tear, many experts believe he could be back by the playoffs.
Rose returned to the court last summer to play for Team USA where he played in 46 games. He’s averaged 18.4 points, 5 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game this season.
Aaron Brooks and Kirk Hinrich will take over in Rose’s place. The Bulls are 36-21, good enough for first place in the Central Division ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers; they have a winning record without Rose, who is just 26-years-old.
