Joe and Anthony Russo Will Direct Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

If you had told us nine years ago that the directors of You, Me and Dupree would be the hottest directors in Hollywood, we’d have laughed in your face. And we would have been wrong to do so. After making a big splash on the TV series “Community,” Joe and Anthony Russo went on to direct the blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier, arguably one of the best films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (so far). Then they signed onto the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, and started getting involved in Sony’s rebooted Ghostbusters franchise. As directors go, they couldn’t get much bigger.

Until they did. Today, the news came from Badass Digest that Joe and Anthony Russo have just signed on to direct Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Avengers: Infinity War Part II. The first part of the blockbuster crossover event will premiere on May 4, 2018 and will conclude with the premiere of the second part, on May 3, 2019.

The plot of Avengers: Infinity War Part I and II has yet to be officially revealed, but it is expected to herald the arrival of the Thanos, the villain first revealed at the end of the original Avengers movie, and who made a brief appearance in last summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, played by Josh Brolin.

Joe and Anthony Russo have been rumored to take over the Avengers movie franchise from Joss Whedon for months now, but today’s news appears to be the first official confirmation about their future plans at Marvel Studios. Since Captain America: The Winter Soldier completely ruled, we here at CraveOnline can’t help but take this announcement as very good news.
