Shooting for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been suspended after Johnny Depp’s return to Australia was delayed due to continued treatment for an injured hand.
Depp, 51, returned to the US for surgery after injuring his hand in an accident on the Gold Coast, where the fifth instalment of the Pirates franchise is currently being filmed.
The reason for the extended stay could be more serious however, with News Corp reporting it is as a result of an “at-home [alcohol] rehab program”, supervised by Depp’s older sister and personal assistant, Christi Dembrowski.
At the time of Depp’s injury, it was not anticipated that production would be heavily affected, with filming to continue around Depp’s character, Captain Jack Sparrow.
However, it appears the show now cannot go on without Depp, who has starred in all of the films to date.
