Arthur Darvill Is Rip Hunter on The Arrow/Flash Spinoff

After years as the companion of a Time Lord, Arthur Darvill is now the Time Master.

The Wrap is reporting that Darvill has been cast as Rip Hunter in The CW’s currently untitled superhero spinoff from The Flash and Arrow. Rip Hunter was created in 1959 by Jack Miller and Ruben Moreira as a time traveling adventurer who eventually headlined his own comic book series, Rip Hunter… Time Master.

More recent incarnations of Rip Hunter have featured the character attempting to preserve the integrity of the DC Universe from adversaries who attempt to change the past. Given the time travel angle implied by Rip Hunter’s presence in this show, this could be the explanation for Caity Lotz to reprise her role as Sara Lance aka Canary. In theory, Sara’s appearances on this show could take place before her apparent demise on Arrow.

Aside from his two and a half seasons on Doctor Who, Darvill is best known for his appearances in Broadchurch, Little Dorrit, The White Queen, as well as his performance in Once on Broadway.

Earlier today, Ciara Renée was cast in the Arrow/Flash spinoff as Kendra Sauders aka Hawkgirl, joining the already signed Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell and Victor Garber.

The CW has the Arrow/Flash spinoff in an “off-development cycle,” which means that the network doesn’t have to make a pickup decision before the May upfront presentations of the Fall 2015 schedule. If the spinoff goes forward, it is expected to run during midseason in early 2016.
