In just under two weeks, Marvel’s Daredevil will premiere on Netflix with AKA Jessica Jones to follow in either late 2015 or early 2016. But now, Marvel and Netflix are taking their first steps towards the third series of their four series deal: Luke Cage.
Marvel TV has announced that Cheo Hodari Coker has signed on as the showrunner and executive producer of Luke Cage, with Coker also slated to write the first two episodes of the 13 episode season. Coker was previously the co-executive producer on Ray Donovan and a supervising producer on Southland. Coker has also written the screenplay for Notorious and authored a book called Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of The Notorious B.I.G.
Mike Colter is headlining Luke Cage as the title character, a wrongly convicted man who gains superhuman strength and nearly invulnerable skin. Colter will appear in several episodes of AKA Jessica Jones before moving over to his own series.

Luke Cage was created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita, Sr. as one of the first African American superheroes within the Marvel Universe. As Power Man, Luke Cage had his own comic book series and an ongoing team up series with Iron Fist. In more recent years, Cage has been a major character in The Avengers as one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Netflix has Luke Cage in place for a 2016 premiere, with an Iron Fist series to follow it before The Defenders brings all of Marvel’s Netflix heroes together for an eight episode miniseries.
