New ‘Jurassic World’ Trailer Unearths Plot Details

Universal’s marketing campaign for Jurassic Park hit a serious skid a week and a half ago, when a preview clip seemed to reveal that the film was going to be really, really bad. (And with nary a “spoiler warning” in sight.) So it was probably a mistake to begin the latest trailer for Colin Trevorrow’s sequel with dialogue from that very same scene, but the rest of this new preview seems custom designed to tell audiences that whether or not the dialogue stinks, the movie itself might actually be a lot of dumb fun.

The new Jurassic World trailer also tells us more than ever about the plot of the film, which is not to say that Jurassic World seems to have much of one. Plot was never the real selling point of the Jurassic Park franchise, anyway. “People go to island, dinosaurs are on the island, people run for their lives.” There’s no reason to screw with a winning formula. But genetically modifying an all-new dinosaur until it’s too intelligent to control is a perfectly decent approach to this new entry in the series, even though it totally reminds us of the 1999 giant shark thriller Deep Blue Sea

But besides that, this new Jurassic World trailer offers us a lot more of what we crave: dinosaurs doing stuff. Running around, killing humans, being huge, teaming up with Chris Pratt to kick the ass of other dinosaurs, all of that is kind of cool. Kinda dumb, but kinda cool, and sometimes that’s enough.

Will Jurassic World be even better, or even worse than it looks? We’ll find out when the film comes out on June 12, 2015!
