Trevor Noah Takes Over The Daily Show In September

On August 6, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart will come to an end as Stewart steps down as host after spending over a decade turning it into one of the most influential comedy and news programs on television.

Trevor Noah was announced as the new host of The Daily Show back in March, and his stint on the series will begin almost eight weeks later. Today, Comedy Central announced that The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will launch on September 28.

To tease the transition, Comedy Central released the following promo video of Noah having some fun at Stewart’s desk before the inevitable ending.

Prior to being named as Stewart’s successor, Noah was barely known in the United States. However, Noah is very famous in his native South Africa, and he was the subject of David Paul Meyer’s documentary film You Laugh But It’s True.

Noah used his guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman to open doors for himself in American comedy. That culminated in Noah’s brief stint as a contributor to The Daily Show before he was given Stewart’s job.

However, Noah was heavily criticized for a series of offensive (and not very funny) tweets that he wrote several years ago. Both Stewart and Comedy Central voiced their support for Noah, who hasn’t made many public appearances since that “scandal” broke. But at the moment, that strategy seems to have worked and the calls to prematurely fire Noah have died down.
