Hollywood continues it’s Oprah Winfrey like run of giving old-school movie franchises reboots, (“YOU GET A REBOOT AND YOU GET A REBOOT, YOU ALL GET REBOOTS!”) with news coming through today that the ’90s musical hit Sister Act will be getting a shine of 21st century polish and be remade for all you greedy millennials out there. It’s like, get your own film series to cherish forever you little monsters! WHOOPI IS OURS!
Anyway, the two Sister Act movies starring Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith and Lauryn Hill were beloved films which have since become cult classics and even inspired a broadway musical and are set to be redone for the new age, in the vein of recent reboots Point Break, National Lampoons Family Vacation, Poltergeist, every single superhero movie and an endless barrage of others.
Information is light on the exact details from Disney, but it looks like a proper reboot as opposed to a sequel, which means one of Will Smith’s kids will definitely be in it. All we know is it’s being produced by Allison Shearmur, who recently looked after the big-budget Cinderella live-action reboot.
I’m calling it now, you guys, Mighty Ducks will be next. You heard it here first.
What do you reckon, is the news of a Sister Act reboot making it a Happy Day for you?
