First Look at The New Ghost Face From MTV’s Scream

Even though the Scream film franchise is largely a satire of the slasher genre, the Ghost Face mask of the killer has become a true icon of horror. The strange and elongated angles of the mask gave it a terrifying countenance that rivaled any of the other famous movie slashers.

While Scream is heading to MTV as a TV series later this month, the classic Ghost Face design will not be used in the show. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a Ghost Faced killer.

Entertainment Weekly has debuted the new design for Ghost Face in the Scream TV series. As you can see, the curves on this mask are very different. But original Scream director Wes Craven seems to like it.

“The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction,” said Craven. “It also ties into the story, which I won’t give away.”

Scream executive producer Jaime Paglia also explained to EW why the original Ghost Face design wasn’t used for the show.

“The [original] mask is so iconic. If you were to have that mask in a television series, but you weren’t following any of the characters [from the original], I believe that would be misleading the audience,” noted Paglia.

But like the original Ghost Face, the new incarnation will have plenty of nubile teens to stalk and murder.

Scream will premiere on MTV on June 30.
