Last month, the Supergirl pilot was leaked online several months ahead of its premiere on CBS. While it’s too soon to tell if that will have an impact on Supergirl’s ratings, CBS is taking no chances with its new comic book show.
The 2015 Fall TV schedule of CBS was formally unveiled today with premiere dates for all of the new and returning shows on that network. For Supergirl, the series premiere has been moved ahead to Monday, October 26. And to kick off the series, CBS is placing a new episode of The Big Bang Theory at 8pm to act as a lead-in for Supergirl at 8:30pm. The following week, Supergirl will take over the 8pm timeslot on Mondays and go head-to-head with Gotham on Fox.

It’s worth noting that CBS has tried this strategy before with Scorpion. Last fall, a new episode of The Big Bang Theory was used to entice viewers to stick around for the Scorpion pilot, and it helped build that show’s audience. The question is whether that strategy will work a second time with a program that has already been illegally viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
CBS also announced that the two hour series finale of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will air on Sunday, September 27.
