NBC Dumps Donald Trump

Presidential candidate, businessman, and Reality TV personality, Donald Trump is out at NBC, two weeks after making inflammatory and outright racist remarks about illegal immigrants from Mexico.

During Trump’s Presidential run announcement, he said “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best…They’re sending people who have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.”

Trump’s remarks didn’t exactly go over well with the Hispanic community. Almost immediately Univision canceled its participation in Trump’s Miss USA pageant. Today, NBC has also cut ties to Trump’s Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, which the network previously co-owned with Trump. That means that neither pageant currently has a TV network. NBC also removed Trump as the host of Celebrity Apprentice, but the network indicated that the show would likely continue with a new host.

Trump responded to the news with the calm, measured remarks that he has become known for.

“[NBC] will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be,” said Trump in a statement. “If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court.”

It’s not exactly clear what Trump is getting out of his Presidential run. He’s never going to win a Republican primary, much less the general Presidential election. And after only two weeks, Trump has already alienated the network that made him a Reality TV star. Was the publicity he gained really worth losing that platform?

Trump is currently polling in second place among Republican Presidential candidates, If Trump’s numbers stay above a certain threshold, he will be allowed to participate in the primary debates. And then the real clown show can begin.
