Comic-Con 2015: X-Men! Mutants! Fantastic 4!

Josh Trank, who has directed the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot (due in theaters August 7th) describes it as “more science than science fiction.” This is a curious and intriguing approach to a movie about superpowers and living mounds of rock. The film will be out in only a few weeks time, so Trank – and the appearance of the film’s cast – in Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con was more about stoking the flames of enthusiasm than big scoops or big reveals; we’ll know all about Fantastic Four soon enough. The premiere of a “final trailer”

The big scoop was news on the upcoming X-Men movies. In addition to Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse (due in theater on May 27th, 2016), Fox also released a bit of news on the upcoming Gambit solo film (October 7th, 2016), and the final Wolverine solo film (March 3rd, 2017), which will feature Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) as an older man. Hugh Jackman was in attendance to confirm that this will indeed be his final time donning the claws to play Wolverine.

Bryan Singer then took the stage to introduce an embarrassingly large team of actors, all from X-Men: Apocalypse: Evan Peters, Lucas Till, Lana Condor, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac, Kodi Smit McPhee, Angela Shipp, Sophie Tunner, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Munn and Ben Hardy all walked on. The team introduced a teaser for the upcoming film, which featured mutant fights, new actors as familiar characters, and the character of Storm sporting her ’80s-tastic mohawk. The footage can be found in leaked for online, but no official trailer has been cut for the public beyond Hall H. Singer confirms that the movie will be about cult mentality, and that the character of Apocalypse will be controlling those around him as part of an ancient doomsday cult (hence, his name).

And, just to make the panel more interesting, Stan Lee made a cameo. Just like in all the movies. the cult leader himself, smiling and taking selfies. What a sport.
