Joe Hockey Name-Drops Nickelback, Jerry Springer & Paddle Pops In Final Speech To Parliament

Australia’s former Federal Treasurer and proclaimer of the end of “the age of entitlement”, Joe Hockey, has used part of his final speech to parliament to remind everyone about his passion for horrible Canadian rock band Nickelback, television presenter Jerry Springer and Paddle Pops ice creams.

Aside from discussing his love of Australia and his family in his last parliamentary speech, Hockey let us all in on some of his “happiest moments” with his MP mates, which doesn’t include this deflating incident:

“To my long-term Canberra flatmates, Jamie Briggs, Brendan Nelson and Bob Baldwin – they’ve seen more of me than many would care to see,” Hockey said in his speech.

“And I can confess that our happiest moments were sitting at home, late at night, eating Paddle Pops, watching Jerry Springer. And admiring the latest Nickelback album, in my case alone.”

Hockey’s undying passion for everything Nickelback has long been embedded in Australia’s political history. Remember these?

In May this year, Queensland Police cheekily issued a warning to locals saying that Nickelback were wanted for “impersonating musicians” during their Aussie tour, but, sadly, the band were never reprimanded in custody.
