During today’s Apple Event the company unveiled the Apple AirPods, the brand new wireless headphones that will ship with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
With Apple having removed the iPhone 7’s headphone jack, the company debuted the headphones that would replace the EarPods of old. Explaining how the company decided to move away from analog headphones in an act of “courage,” the company revealed the ridiculous AirPods, that assume more-or-less the same shape as the EarPods only without the wires attached to them.
As a result of this change, the AirPods look more than a little odd when they’re jutting out of their user’s ear. Though Apple navigated the controversy surrounding the absence of the headphone jack by revealing that they would include an adapter with shipments of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, we still wish that they’d come up with a better design for their officially branded headphones. Aside from their odd aesthetic, they also look like they’ll be incredibly easy to lose considering their small size.
Though Apple excitedly explained how the AirPods could easily connect to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with a simple touch of a button, along with discussing how they can be used with other Apple products, too, the company didn’t fail to over-price these extraordinary audio earrings, announcing at the end of their presentation that they would retail for $159. Considering that we imagine it’s only a matter of time before we lose them, that they cost around a quarter of the cost of the iPhone 7 price itself means we’ll likely see a bunch of iPhone 7 users with only one headphone to their name in the future, as their second headphone lies forgotten behind their sofa.
