Adam Rupeka wanted to see how well his right to freedom of speech would hold up in Sarasota Springs, NY. Judging by this video, the answer is not so well.
Rupeka was driving around town looking for cops to flick off. When he finally found one, the cop immediately pulled him over. Rupeka refused to give up any of his pertinent information and after 30 short seconds, the cop pulled his pepper spray gun on the driver. It was all caught on camera and you can check it out in the video.
I’m still trying to figure out what I think of all this. On the one hand, Rupeka has the right to say whatever he wants to the cops, whether verbally or with his hands, as long as he’s not technically breaking any laws. On the other hand, rolling around flicking off cops seems like a pretty troll-y move.
In the end, Rupeka wasn’t charged with disorderly conduct, but rather obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. The stunt wound up getting Rupeka ticketed for having an obstructed view while the pepper spray resulted in a hospital visit. Police also had his car towed, which cost $153 to get back.
