iPhone 7 Survives Being Trapped in Melted Rubber

When Apple announced the iPhone 7 its enhanced durability was a key selling point, with the tech giant boasting how the new smartphone was now water-resistant and dust-resistant, among other things. While this meant that the headphone jack had to be dropped (R.I.P.), it also ensured that the more careless iPhone owners among us wouldn’t have to make frequent use of our insurance policies.

But despite the iPhone 7’s ability to take some degree of punishment, that hasn’t prevented various YouTubers from continuing to upload videos in which they put the device through extreme tests of endurance, from drilling holes in it through to scratching its surface with a pen knife. However, one of YouTube’s more prominent iPhone-destroyers has come unstuck after trying to ruin the smartphone using melted rubber, with the substance not having much of an effect on the device whatsoever.

TechRax, a YouTuber who has previously destroyed iPhones using axe grinders, guns and tasers among other things, uploaded a video in which he coated the inside of an iPhone 7 box with melted rubber. Pouring the liquid on everything from the device itself through to its headphones and plug, it seemed inevitable that when the rubber finally set, it would render the iPhone 7 it had trapped inside its box completely useless.

However, after waiting 5 hours for the rubber to turn back into a solid, TechRax discovered that it had instead created a perfect mold of the smartphone and its accessories, with everything inside the box remaining perfectly functional. The rubber hadn’t entered the iPhone 7’s Lightning port, and as a result the smartphone continued to work as normal. TechRax had been unwittingly created a custom iPhone case in the process:

While videos of people destroying the expensive smartphone continue to remain popular, it’s nice to see the iPhone 7 able to stand up for itself for once. If you want to see its victory against the YouTuber, check out the video below:
