2016 L.A. Auto Show | Mercedes-Maybach to Create 300 of S650 Cabriolet

The ultra-luxury automaker Mercedes-Maybach builds some of the most elite chauffeur-themed machines on Earth, but it’s never built a cabriolet model. That was fixed at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show with the introduction of the S650.

The new extreme high-end build will be limited to a very exclusive 300 cars worldwide and just 75 units in the U.S. The company made news earlier this year with the debut of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 in Europe, and continued making noise in very rarified automotive air in Los Angeles.

The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet has no ambition to be a performance car. It’s DNA and heritage are rooted deeply in extreme comfort and sophistication. Still, the S650 is powered by a massive 6.0 liter V12 biturbo engine. The machine will not lack speed with a horsepower figure of 621.

The S650 offers U.S. three themes – Zircon Red paint with porcelain/black interior, Cote d’Azur Blue paint with porcelain/saddle brown interior and Designo Diamond White paint with porcelain/yacht blue interior.

The Mercedes-Maybach S650 will be based on the open-top S-Class and uses that car’s aesthetic and proportions. The Maybach emblem is on full display on the fender. The car rides on 20-inch Maybach wheels. Of course, the interior is fully leather-trimmed. As for the other in-car appointments, they vary according to the bespoke choices of the buyer.

As though the car in and of itself isn’t enough, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet is equipped with an exclusive travel luggage set, comprised of two travel bags and two lifestyle bags made of original vehicle leather. All the bags, are tailored to match the Cabriolet.

Each Mercedes-Maybach Cabriolet arrives with a special welcome pack offering a key ring made of the same leather used in the vehicle’s interior and a certificate signed by Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
