NAIAS 2017 | BMW Prices 5 Series with New M550i, 530e

For years, the BMW 5 Series set the standard for performance luxury sedans. The German automaker used NAIAS 2017 to debut two new additions to that series putting some of BMW’s newest technologies to work.

The 530e Sedan and M550i xDrive Sedan both showed their fresh faces in Detroit. The 530e is the fourth member of the BMW iPerformance model family and the first BMW iPerformance model to be offered in both sDrive Rear-wheel drive and xDrive All-wheel drive. The M550i xDrive Sedan is the fastest 5 Series entry to date with a 0-60 time in under 4 seconds.

The BMW 530e xDrive iPerformance Sedan enters the MSRP range at $53,700 and uses an eDrive electric motor with a 4-cylinder, 2.0 liter TwinPower Turbo combustion engine. That motor manages 248 horsepower and offers a respectable 0-60 time of 6.0 seconds.

The 2018 BMW M550i xDrive Sedan will be available starting at $72,100. As the latest descendant of the classic M5 heritage,  the M550i xDrive Sedan is the first M Performance model to be powered by a modified M Performance TwinPower Turbo 4.4 liter,  eight cylinder engine. That V8 holds two twin-scroll turbochargers and features a High Precision Injection system, Valvetronic fully variable valve lift and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing control.

All that is fancy talk for a car putting out 456 horsepower and a 0 to 60 time of 3.9 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Add to all that intelligent all-wheel drive with rear-wheel bias and a bespoke M Performance chassis set-up.
