NYIAS 2017: Zenith and Ranger Rover Unveil New Velar Chronograph

In a presumed effort to match a high end watch to every new edition from Range Rover, Zenith issued the second installment in their JLR line at NYIAS 2017. From the exclusive El Primero timepiece series, Zenith previewed the new Chronograph El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition.

Co-designed and engineered by Range Rover and Zenith, the Velar chronograph made its North American debut alongside the new SUV during a pair of special New York International Auto Show events this week.

Codeveloped by design and technical engineering teams from Zenith and JLR, the El Primero Velar chronograph features a custom ceramic aluminum case and a high beat movement of 36,000 vibrations per hour (VpH). Its design cues all represent a wrist-worn symbol of the Range Rover SUV line.

The first co-developed watch from both brands, the El Primero Velar features a 42 mm case finished in burnished copper, a brushed slate grey dial, three chronograph sub-dials, date indicator and a winding crown paired with two functional push pieces.

The underside of the watch contains the Range Rover and Velar names engraved on the oscillating weight and the retaining ring of the transparent case-back. El Primero Velar comes to its owner with a new strap in sustainable rubber and coated with dark grey diamond-perforated calfskin — the same Scottish leather featured in Range Rover interiors.
