This Week in Hard Seltzer: There’s a New Flavor Out Sure to Ruin Your Day (A Bit Tart, Don’t You Think?)

There’s no disputing the appeal of hard seltzers. The category has absolutely exploded in the last few years. While there are myriad flavors in the hard seltzer universe, most are completely expected. This includes the likes of lemon, lime, berry, cherry, and the like. But just like in the beer world, there are always brands willing to push the envelope with flavors like pumpkin pie and even toasted marshmallow. Others want to take a stick of dynamite and pack it into said envelope and completely destroy it and everything in the vicinity. We’re talking, of course, about Shiner’s new Dill Pickle-flavored hard seltzer.

While pickle-flavored hard seltzer is nothing new (there was another trending back in the late spring), this pickle-centric hard seltzer is the real deal. By that, we mean it isn’t flavored with artificial pickle flavoring that vaguely resembles the dill pickles that you eat beside your favorite cold cut sandwich.

This 4.5% hard seltzer is made with real pickles using Shiner’s Brewmaster Jimmy Mauric’s family recipe. So, instead of tasting like synthetic, chemicals, it tastes like fizzy, dill, coriander, and other spices. It’s a refreshing, zesty, tangy drink for anyone who wants to drink an alcoholic, effervescent version of the pickled cucumber we know and love. It’s available for $7.99 for a 6-pack, but we’ll just stick to drinking pickle juice and pairing it with whiskey instead.
