Summer Grilling Guyd: Cookina BBQ Grill Sheets

The Cookina will work with just about every mode of cooking — from ovens and range tops to microwave ovens. But it’s a reusable option for keeping your grill clean in place of foil. It also looks to distribute heat evenly while grilling more delicate choices like vegetables or seafood.

While it’s not necessary to be a grill master to use Cookina, you still need to know your way around your BBQ. The manufacturer warns users not to use around heat north of 500 degrees (which should be easy enough unless you’re grilling south of hell). But, users are also urged not to let Cookina get into direct contact with open flame. That’s tricker, especially for hibachi style grills and any setup with a shorter briquet pan.

As long as we’re talking about grill mastery, there is one point to keep in mind. Depending on your grilling specialty, you may not wish to keep your grill “clean.” In fact, may pit masters never subject their cooking surfaces to any soap, water or other cleaning surface. They like to keep their medium earthy. Or, they use the ultimate purifier — fire — to get their cleaning surface debris free.

Still, for those looking to keep a new grilling surface more pristine (or to keep a portion of a BBQ devoted to char-free cooking), Cookina is an intriguing possibility.
