Facebook Suffers Global Outage, Human Lives Briefly Restored

A global Facebook outage this afternoon saw millions of people stranded without the social media network for around 30 minutes, forcing entire populations to go back to their everyday lives as if it were no longer 2014, but 2004 again — if only for less than an hour.

The outage began around 5:50pm AEST across Australia, Europe and the United States, and saw other forms of social media flooded with users looking for information. An uncountable number of Tweets used #facebookdown to air their gripes, the hashtag trending soon after the outage occurred.

“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting it fixed as soon as we can,” was the message from Facebook, signed off with a 2013 copyright logo. The social media giant came back online around 6:20pm AEST this evening.

There has been no explanation as to the cause of the outage from official channels so far. More updates as we have them.
