Russia Banning Curse Words in Online Comments and Articles

Russia is planning to implement a search filter that will censor curse words used in online articles and comments, as Putin continues his war on foul language and, by extension, his citizens’ right to free speech.

The eastern European nation has already put in place a new legislation in which individuals and businesses can be fined for using foul language, and films that feature them will be banned from release. Books that feature curse words will also be forced to come with an obligatory “obscenity warning” on their covers.

However, Putin’s ridiculous stance on foul language will also spread as far as the Internet, as the country’s media watchdog, Roskomnadzor, will put in place a search program that will allow them to find obscenities in online articles and comments, before censoring them.

The ins-and-outs of such a search program hasn’t been detailed, but it’s already attracting its fair share of criticism from those who believe that this is yet another example of Putin exercising his control of his populace by way of introducing laws that stand only to infringe upon their freedoms.
