We all secretly wish that we could go back to an age where playing laser tag was acceptable. Adult men shooting each other with plastic guns simply isn’t the done thing these days, and no matter how much we’d like to spend our Saturday afternoon trapped in laser warfare with our friends, doing so would probably cause our peers to lose a bit of respect for us.
That wouldn’t be the case if we spent an afternoon in The Void, though. Essentially VR lasertag in which you’re transported to a Tron-esque virtual world all recreated using the Unity game engine, The Void makes use of its Rapture Head Mounted Display to provide players with “the most believe virtual reality experience possible,” combining curved OLED displays running at a 1080p resolution with high-quality THX headphones, microphones for in-game communication and 120HZ head tracking sensors.

The Rapture headset also works in tandem with The Void’s Rapture Vest, which monitors damage inflicted upon the player during the game, and the Rapture Gloves, which allows players to interact with the game worlds they’re exploring.
Sessions in The Void will take place in “Game Pods” that can transport players to a variety of different game worlds, with the Pods employing various techniques in order to give players the sensation of actually being in the VR world they’re exploring. This will mean that the Game Pods will be include elevation changes, vibrations, air pressure, changes in temperature and moisture, and simulated liquids and smells. They will also come equipped with motion simulators for vehicular sections of the game sessions, with these simulators allowing for 360 degree rotation over 3 axis rotations. In other words, during a course of a game you may be instructed to board an aircraft, with these motion simulators reenacting its movement.
The Void will be coming to major cities in North and South America, Asia, Europe and Australia, so if you’re located in those regions, you should be very, very excited right now.
