Tesla Energy Batteries Have Made $803 Million in One Week

Tesla’s new Tesla Energy electricity system has pulled in $800 million within its first week of reservations, reports suggest.

The new system, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said will eradicate fossil fuels for good in the future, has seen a considerable amount of pre-orders for its Powerwall and Powerpack models, with Bloomberg Business reporting that the two models have already pulled in $178.8 million and $625 million respectively.

The Powerwall models, which were targeted towards homeowners, are yet to be economically viable given the high cost of implementing and installing the systems, though at this moment in time Tesla is more concerned with selling its Powerpack models that are aimed at businesses.

According to Musk, between 38,000 orders have been placed for the Powerwall, with some customers purchasing two of the batteries that has seen the final number of reserved batteries coming in at around 50-60,000. With these batteries priced between $3,000 – $3,500, the final figure tallies in at around $178.8 million.

Even more impressive are the sales of the Powerpack batteries. With 2,500 reservations having been made by corporations, each boasting 10 Powerpacks per installation and their electricity priced at $250 per kilowatt hours, the estimated amount of orders thus far therefore comes in at an estimated $625 million, equaling a grand total of $803.8 million.

According to Bloomberg, Tesla spokeswoman Khobi Brooklyn agreed with their estimations, saying: “In the coming months, we will work with our distribution partners to ensure that customers are well informed and know what to expect when deliveries start this summer.”

These are huge numbers for the company, and could mean that this line of business will usurp their Tesla Motors division as the company’s most lucrative source of revenue. With companies falling over one another to adopt the new energy method, the future certainly looks promising for Tesla Energy.
