New Emoji Incoming: Bacon, Selfie, Face Palm, Potato & More

Next year, the world will likely receive a new supply of 38 emoji including bacon, selfie, the “call me” hand, face palm, avocado and something called “Mother Christmas”.

The Unicode Consortium — that’s the Californian organisation which standardises and regulates emoji — has unveiled another set of pictographs which we’ll soon be able to include in all of our digital messaging.

According to Yahoo, the consortium’s emoji subcommittee (yes, that’s a thing) have finalised their additions and have submitted them to a vote. The new emoji (listed below, with some previewed above), will be added to the existing set in June 2016 as part of the Unicode 9.0 update, if everything goes to plan.
