Milan Collections | Pringle of Scotland

Head designer Massimo Nicosia set the mood for the Pringle of Scotland presentation with a magical, live dance performance by the Michael Clark Company just before the new collection hit the runway. Graceful and elegant, just like the dancers, one by one easy pieces from tailored to knitted were displayed showing the iconic brand founded in 1815 is still one of the best in technical innovation in knitwear.

Inspired by the Holiday’s in Scotland, models wore silk and cotton blend parkas and university jackets, argyle and leather weave front sweaters reminiscent of Scottish country house settings. Even the argyle sweaters were inspired by the stain glass of St. Giles’ Cathedral however, monochromatic looks consisting of realized tailoring for a more sophisticated dresser. A walk down memory lane, the collection also included rainproof silk coats with embroidery, patterned shirts and knits influenced by scarves showing off the region’s tourist attractions.

Bringing the designs into the present time and the home of Pringle’s parent, some pieces were embroidered or woven with dragon and tiger designs. The Eastern influence brought out subtle detailing and added character to the fluid suiting and cropped jackets. Paired back to loose, yet tapered trousers with sandals or loafers the collection had somewhat of a somber mood, arguably not what many of the attendees expected for a late evening show.

Although the collection was small (26 looks) but very well put together, the color palettes in grey, steel blue and white made each ensemble look classic. Each piece was something that could be comfortably worn everyday for years to come, easily combined with almost anything in your closet.
