The iPhone 6S – Not the iPhone 7 – Will Release on September 25th

A leaked internal email from Vodafone has revealed that the iPhone 6S will go on sale on September 25th, with Apple set to hold pre-orders for the new smartphone on September 18th. While the message does not specifically state what the name of the upcoming device will be, it will in all likelihood be branded the iPhone 6S, or will feature a new letter at the end of its name entirely. It will not be called the iPhone 7.

Why do I specify that it won’t be called the iPhone 7? Well unfortunately a number of publications are jumping on the particularly dubious bandwagon of suggesting that the next iPhone will be titled the iPhone 7, regardless of it being quite apparent that the tech giant isn’t looking to release a new flagship phone this early, and with it being abundantly clear that it will instead be an incremental update in the vein of what we have seen in the past from the company. While it may well be titled something other than the iPhone 6S, to claim that it will be titled the iPhone 7 is to suggest that Apple would dare harm the record-breaking sales of the iPhone 6 by introducing a new flagship model, which is not going to be the case.

If I were to approach this with a cynical slant, then I’d suggest that these publications are stating that the next iPhone could be the iPhone 7 due to the iPhone 7 being a more interesting prospect for readers, with it therefore being a more frequent search topic than the iPhone 6S. If I wasn’t being cynical then I’d suggest that this is simply a mistake that is coincidentally being made by a wide variety of tech reporters, who you’d imagine would have a good grasp of Apple hardware by this point, but who apparently do not.

But regardless of whether the next iPhone release will be the iPhone 6S, something else entirely or the iPhone 7 (again, it will absolutely not be the iPhone 7), there have also been a number of leaked documents and images that allow us to get a better idea of what the new smartphone will reportedly add to the iPhone 6 family. While the iPhone 6S isn’t suspected to be a major overhaul in terms of design, according to 9to5Mac Apple’s new Force Touch feature, which the company is set to introduce to its new Macbook, will make its way to the new device, while a 0.2mm also looks like it has been implemented in order to combat the flexibility of the device, an issue that was made apparent by users during the whole “#bendgate” debacle that accompanied the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

In a video uploaded by Apple reseller MacManiack which reportedly reveals a stripped-down iPhone 6S fascia, it also looks as though the new smartphone has a larger front-facing camera. Could this mean higher-quality selfies?
