Oculus Rift Shipping Delayed Due to “Unexpected Component Shortage”

Oculus VR has delayed shipping its Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to some early customers, citing “unexpected component shortage” as the reasoning behind the change in the initial shipping estimates.

While Oculus has yet to inform affected customers of how long this delay should last, the company has sent out an email apologizing for not updating the order statuses of those still waiting on the headset, adding: “We’re working hard to get up-to-date ship windows, and you should expected to see your order status updated on oculus.com by Tuesday, April 12.”

Despite the Oculus Rift having received great early views, customers are growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of transparency from Oculus in regards to when they should receive the device. The official Oculus subreddit is currently littered with complaints, with Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey even hopping into the comments section in order to vent his own frustrations, writing: “I am not going to wax poetic about this, since I have done so in the past, but bottom-line: I won’t give in-depth updates on any situation without knowing it is solid, true, and finalized. Until I can do so, the best I can do is remind people that I will get them information as quickly as I can.”

He added: “On the rare occasions when things still change, even when they change for reasons out of my control, I get crucified anyway. Sometimes that means updates have to wait until things get locked down, and sometimes that means waiting a little longer to give everyone good info.”

Unfortunately for Luckey, it’s unlikely that this latest email to customers is going to help ease the pressure the company is currently under.
