Frieze New York | Everything You Need to Know

Calling all contemporary art aficionados: The sixth edition of Frieze New York returns to Randall’s Island Park, Manhattan from May 5–7, 2017. With over 200 galleries from 30 countries around the globe, the fair showcases the most significant works of contemporary art, organized into ambitious presentations that include site-specific artist commissions and talks.

Organized by Victoria Siddall (Director, Frieze Fairs) alongside Artistic Directors Abby Bangser and Jo Stella-Sawicka, the 2017 edition of Frieze New York showcases various areas curated by a team of top international curators including:

Spotlight, a selection of feature presentations of rarely seen work by iconic figures of the avant-garde since the 1960s. Curated by Toby Kamps (The Menil Collection, Houston), Spotlight includes works by Kenny Scharf, Etienne-Martin, Amilcar de Castro, Judith Lungares, and Katalin Ladik, among others.

Frieze Projects, a non-profit program of artists’ commissions realized annually for Frieze London and Frieze New York. Commissioned by Cecilia Alemani (High Line Art, New York / Italian Pavilion 2017 Venice Biennale), Frieze Projects includes works by Il Teatro Delle Mostre, Dora Budor, Jon Rafman, and Eliane Cameron-Weir.

Frame, a section for experimentation presenting solo shows by today’s hottest new artists. Organized by Jacob Proctor (Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society, University of Chicago) and Fabian Schöneich (Portikus, Frankfurt), Frame include installations by Eva LeWitt, Zhou Siwei, Jan Vorisek, Jared Ginsburg, Sven Loven, Akira Ikezoe, and more.

Frieze Talks, a series of keynote lectures, panel debates, and discussions featuring some of the most influential artists and thinkers today. Curated by Tom Eccles (Bard College, New York), Frieze Talks includes a reading and discussion with poet Claudia Rankine, a symposium panel on “Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985,” and a conversation with artists Tania Brugera, Anri Sala, and Jeanne van Heeswijk, discussing how artists can effect change.

This years edition of Frieze New York will include showcases from the world’s leading modern and contemporary art Galleries, which feature highlights such as Andres Serrano at Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Lorna Simpson at Hauser & Wirth, William Eggleston at David Zwirner, Anton van Dalen at P.P.O.W., Wolfgang Tillmans at Maureen Paley, and Liza Lou at Lehmann Maupin, among so much more.
