NASA has released incredible footage of Earth in a 4K resolution, offering us a glimpse of the view from the International Space Station.
The space exploration organization has been able to record footage in up to a whopping 6K resolution, utilizing digital camera company RED’s Epic Dragon company to record videos in resolutions of 6144 x 3160 pixels. In comparison with consumer TVs, which typically broadcast video at an HD pixel count of 1920 x 1080, this represents a massive leap in visual quality. However, it will still be a long while before we get to see these 6K images in their native resolutions, given that 4K has only begun to make an impact upon the TV industry since 2014.
The Epic Dragon camera, which was used to record movies such as Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, is now being used by NASA to beam 4K footage of space back to Earth for us to watch on YouTube. We’re truly living in the future, folks.
