The litany of advertisements that litter the London Underground could soon be replaced by cute photographs of cats, if one Kickstarter project comes to fruition.
The Citizens Advertising Takeover Service (or CATS, for short) is looking to raise £23,000 to replace the ads you typically see plastered across the London Underground with images of cats. According to the organizers behind the project, they’ve asked Transport for London if their plan is viable, with the local government body informing them that they are allowed to “turn an entire station into a roaring festival of cats.” Raising £20,000 would allow them to achieve this goal on one of London’s smaller platforms while additional funds would ensure that they could conduct this celebration of our feline friends on a larger scale.
CATS states that the Kickstarter project has been organised for two reasons: firstly, because “it would look amazing”, and secondly, because “it’s exhausting being asked to buy stuff all the time”.
“This is about trying something, flexing our collective voice in the most idiotic of ways”, the project states, adding: “From all this madness something amazing could happen. Perhaps we’ll start to realize that buying stuff isn’t making us happy.
“Maybe cats won’t make us happy either, but it’s got to be better than insurance adverts. Maybe during this moment of cat related calm, we might have a brilliant thought, or a dumb one or even… spend a moment thinking about nothing at all.”
CATS is requesting £23,000 to make their goal possible, while pledging £5 will grant backers access to limited edition version of AdBlocker, titled “C.A.T.S Ad Blocker”, that has been developed in conjunction with the popular browser extension. This ad blocking plug-in will effectively replace all ads you see online with images of cats.
Backers can also pledge £2,500 to have their cat professionally photographed and appear on one of the posters displayed in the London Underground.
