7 New Ways To Eat S’mores

Graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows: it’s the trifecta of summer sweetness. But in the time since you were a kid enjoying s’mores around the campfire, this iconic treat has evolved. No longer are s’mores stuck in the sticky, sloppy handheld treat category as they once were. These are just some of the outrageous ways s’mores have been updated–and improved on– by bakers across the country. No campfire necessary.

S’mores Cake

The Give Me S’mores Cake at Minneapolis-based Angel Food bakery is reason enough to celebrate. Layers of chocolate cake are slathered with graham cracker buttercream, doused in a chocolate ganache, and topped with singed marshmallow meringue. You can’t get this cake delivered outside of the city, but something tells us it just might be worth a road trip.

S’mores Cupcakes

In a heat wave, you might not want to leave the couch to track down dessert, which is why you need Wicked Good Cupcakes. The Shark Tank TV show alum specializes in pastries packed into 8-ounce mason jars, meaning you get double the usual cupcake volume delivered to your door. Because the Gimme S’more flavor is limited time only, you might as well stock up with a six-pack. The cupcakes last for up to 10 days at room temperature or up to four months in the freezer. (As if you needed that long to polish ’em off.)

Kansas probably isn’t the first place you think of for awe-inspiring desserts…unless you’ve heard about the super-sized s’mores, served in a cast iron skillet, at American bistro Urban Table. Our advice: skip dinner and dive right in.

S’mores Pie

Badass Brooklyn bakery Butter & Scotch is rapidly gaining notoriety in the food world for its sexy pairing of booze and sweets. While the s’mores pie is non-alcoholic, it’s definitely naughty. (Imagine a graham cracker crust, milk chocolate custard, and bruleed marshmallow fluff having a threesome in your mouth.) If you aren’t lucky enough to live in the Crown Heights neighborhood, you can still get a taste with the help of FedEx if you’re on the East Coast.

S’mores Brownies

Humble Riverside, Calif. baker Hunneedees loads dark chocolate brownies with graham cracker crumbs and toasted mini marshmallows. Available by the dozen, these are perfect for a picnic or potluck.

S’mores Doughnut

New Jersey bakery Broad St. Dough Co. has 20 flavors of doughnuts daily, including the S’mores Galore, a pastry covered in chocolate, sprinkled with crushed graham crackers, adorned with marshmallows, and criss-crossed with a caramel drizzle. If that doesn’t entice your taste buds, the store also offers specials, including a red velvet variation and the Devil’s Nutella Caramel S’mores doughnut (above).

Of course Starbucks got in on the s’mores craze. (And can we blame them?) This chocolate sauce-infused drink with marshmallowy whipped cream and graham cracker crumble just might be the most portable and least messy incarnation of s’mores in existence. That it’s cool and caffeinated only makes it that much more desirable on a sweltering summer afternoon.
